Learning to Play Closely: Undertale

I game that I’ve played a bit of (admittedly maybe not enough to fully understand) is Undertale. It is structured like many RPG games and the player can progress through the game by defeating enemies. A very unique feature of the game is that the player is allowed to spare any of the enemies instead of choosing to fight them, and each of these characters have some identity that the character can learn through dialogue, making them seem more personable rather than just a role as part of an objective to complete for the game. Through the interactive gameplay that allows a player to make decisions that affect the future in the game. I feel an emotional impact in the game since the actions seem to be meaningful, and as a player, I participate in the story as it unfolds based on how I interact with the characters well designed by the game rather than just observing a narrative that gradually progresses. Although I’ve only played the game a bit, I think the design of the game allows for feelings of empathy and responsibility that stood out from other RPGs I have played.
