I picked Animal Crossing: New Horizons, one of my favorite games. The main fun comes from the nine key concepts of aesthetic. For sensory pleasure, I love the soft music, the pretty scenery, and all the small details like the sound of rain at night. It just feels good to be in the game. For fantasy, it fulfills my dream of owning my own island and building whatever I want, which is something impossible to do in real life. For narrative, the story is simple, just daily island life, but small events keep it interesting, like a neighbor moving out or a surprise visitor showing up, making it feel like a cuter version of real life. For challenge, I start from nothing and have to earn money and invest time to build my island up, which makes progress feel genuinely rewarding. For fellowship, I can connect with friends by visiting each other’s islands and sharing ideas. There is barely any competition, which honestly fits the game well. For discovery, there is always something new to find — new furniture, seasonal items, or a fresh way to design something. For expression, the way I build and decorate the island reflects my own personality. Finally, for abnegation, I can exit the game anytime without any penalty, and this freedom is what makes me want to come back.
