Hello, I’m Jenny. I go by he/they pronouns.
If I had to pick a favorite game of all time, it would probably be PlateUp! (a restaurant rogue-like with multiplayer support). I’m not exactly the best gamer in terms in the stereotypical assets of game movement and combat. My siblings and friends are much better gamers than me, so it can be hard to find games to play together. I mostly play games in a social context, so this is very important to me. I already enjoy restaurant sims, and I find the puzzle-like aspect of arranging and optimizing your restaurant to scratch the logic part of my brain in a nice way. We’ve made some truly busted setups. I think sharing the hubris of restaurant insanity is what draws me to it.
Recently, I was able to play the board game Hues and Cues with a group of friends. Something I really appreciate about board games is that you don’t need to put in the effort of modding or programing to alter the rules. You can just use the same pieces. Thus, for our last round, we modify the rules to allow abstract cues only. The enjoyment was more so in people’s explanations for why words like “chemistry” conjure different colors in our group versus “hypnosis” which we generally considered pink or purple.
