Splendor is a game about collecting gems. Well technically the game is about collecting the most points, but the gems are what really matter. The fun is in the challenge and competition with other players to get the gems and cards that you want, while figuring out how best to sequence your buying and drawing turns. The cards in the market area are continually changing, which means you have to adjust your plan on the fly, while still trying to keep your goal in mind. Nobles add another layer of goal-setting, as they are a huge benefit, and can help players catch up to the leader. As the game develops, oftentimes players are not going for the same high point cards as each other, resulting in players having to decide between advancing their own agenda or stalling their opponents. However, it can be very satisfying to be able to steal a card you know someone else wants, to your own benefit. Overall, the card interactions create a fun game that requires you to think on your toes and compete with your friends.
