MDA&8 Kinds of Fun

How Stick Fight Creates Fun Through Mechanics and Dynamics

One game I really enjoy is Stick Fight. According to the MDA framework, the game’s mechanics include random weapon spawns, simple movement controls, physics-based combat, and environmental hazards. Players can pick up weapons, dodge attacks, and try to eliminate each other.

These mechanics create exciting dynamics during gameplay. Because weapons appear randomly, players constantly compete for better equipment. The physics system makes every match unpredictable, and environmental obstacles force players to stay alert. As a result, every round feels different, even when playing on the same map.

The main aesthetic experience for me is Challenge and Fellowship. Challenge comes from trying to survive, avoid hazards, and defeat other players. Fellowship comes from playing with friends, laughing at unexpected moments, and competing against each other. The game also creates some Submission fun because it is easy to pick up and enjoy without needing a long learning process.

The game also creates “Hard Fun” because winning requires skill and quick reactions, while the funny physics and unexpected moments create “People Fun” when playing with friends.

Overall, Stick Fight shows how simple mechanics can create exciting interactions and a fun social experience. This combination of competition, unpredictability, and playing with friends is what makes the game enjoyable for me.
