Question 1: Do the rules presented to the player incentivize them to express creativity in the way we intended?
- This question is important due to the modality we’ve chosen being a drawing, judging game. Because of how open ended drawing and judging both are, it’s important to build systems that make sure the game remains engaging, and doesn’t become a generic experience.
- I think for this prototype we will have just a set of rules, instead of having any kind of assets to hand out.
- Honestly I’m not sure because we haven’t made the rules yet, but I’m almost sure we won’t succeed on the first try, it’s hard to know what parts of the formula are important to retaining attention, and I’m sure we’ll be missing at least one important aspect.
Question 2: Is the game balanced between those with skill in drawing, and those with less skill?
- It’s important to us that the best artist is not the winner every time in our game, and that we instead prioritize the creativity and ideas of players. It’s almost a form of balancing.
- For this prototype we likely will need some more scaffolding, maybe some kind of shared starting point or prompt for the players, so the differences in idea can especially stand out.
- I think we have a decent shot of achieving this, I think simply reinforcing judging criteria in the rules will suffice, but there’s no way to be certain before seeing the different elements of the game interact.
Question 3: Is the game’s premise amusing enough to warrant playing?
- A lot of out ideas are on the wackier side, and I think part of our intent with this game is for it to be a silly experience from the get-go. It’s not very difficult for us to find out own jokes entertaining or funny, since we know our own senses of humor, but it’s important we actually asses if we succeed here, since games that lean too much into campy humor can be off putting.
- This prototype will boil down to proper execution of our premise. This means that having a catchy name and good theming for different game elements will be key, we’ll want to label things almost like twitter did with tweets and retweets.
- I think our overall vision will be something people enjoy, but I don’t think we’re gonna hit the mark on all of the smaller jokes incorporated into the mechanics.
