Short Exercise: What do Prototypes Prototype?

How can people get closer/bond?

  • This is important because games bring people together and it’s a beautiful thing to foster a deeper connection when playing games. All our prototypes want people to have fun and bring them together because that is the essence of games.
  • One of our prototypes was more focused on this question, it was the modification of we’re not really strangers. This prototype will include deep questions and not so deep questions to build a stronger connection between people.
  • My guess is that it will be difficult to include people who are not as vulnerable. But those people are not necessarily our target audience, therefore, the game has a potential to succeed.

How can story play a role in modding a game to make it more fun?

  • This is important because games inherently make people escape from reality. Story can play a big role in doing so.
  • The prototype that set out to answer this question was the modification of mafia/werewolf. We changed it so that there are different story lines and people have very deep storylines.
  • I believe that this prototype will not be so successful because you can kind of already do this if someone is really creative.

How can we make games that are accessible?

  • I think this is an important question to answer because we want everyone to play games. We want them to come in and just play.
  • A feature from one of our prototypes I think tackles this question. In our trivia game prototype we wanted the trivia to be more accessible so we made it in different categories and we made some easy, medium, and hard questions.
  • I think this will make the target audience more broad which I think can make it fun for more people, meaning that it is more accessible.
