One game I really like is Jak 2, for the PS2. Because it features lots of different dynamics (platforming, shooting enemies, racing), there are a lot of architectures that support these modes of gameplay. Much of the platforming parts of the game are heavily reliant upon exploration and obstacles, with the racing and enemy-elimination parts of the game relying upon constraint. The world of Jak 2, however, is in its own fictional, tech-high-fantasy-esque realm, so it doesn’t get to borrow upon too much allusion, rather building much of its own new architecture to flesh out its own, unique lore (much of the reason I love the game!).
