CS247 – Checkpoint 1: Concept Doc

Playlist: Mystique + Angel’s Egg

Narrative Directions

  1. A puzzle and exploration game in which a player solves challenges with the help of their synesthesia. The player designs a character with a specific type of synesthesia (such as by determining what color is associated with each number and letter), then uses their abilities to navigate obstacles and finish levels. Their final task is to restore color to a world of black-and-white.

  2. Plato’s Cave: a locked room with multiple light sources and strange objects. The player positions and rotates the lights and objects to cast shadows on the wall, which gradually reveals a story. Sometimes the shadows become animated figures, and the player increasingly needs to involve their own shadow into the story, which eventually comes to life.

  3. Uncanny Valley: A eerie narrative game where the player is a doctor character who humanises mutants for a living. The mutants are humanoid but have strange deformities, such as rotated body parts or changed bodily proportions, that need to be adjusted. In the process of “healing” these mutants, the player becomes more uncanny, developing more abilities such as extra strength or increased agility or ultraviolet vision.
