Individual Concept Doc P2

Moodboard

For our game, I would like to draw inspiration from the following games:  Horrortale, OneShot, Little Misfortune, Little Nightmares, Fran Bow, Limbo, Dark Deception, Alice: Madness Returns, and “the mall” concept art from Dark Deception Chapter 5

Spotify Soundtracks

Please find the soundtrack playlist here with songs that fit the most to what I want our game to be: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3AFQPQNQdvBbDcD3hN6Cn4

Since Spotify doesn’t have most of the soundtracks/songs I actually want to put in the game I would like to prototype, please find the actual list here, which is a list of selected songs from YouTube (with the songs , we also want to tell a story that reflects of what it is actually happening in scence/sequence/minigame/puzzle) :

Narrative Directions

Direction 1 – Bedtime Protocol (Psychological Puzzle Horror)

Initially, the game seems like an innocent point-and-click narrative for kids aged between 5 and 8. The game follows the pattern of good night routines, i.e. brushing the teeth, putting pajamas and sleeping. The game design is rather restrictive to the players and doesn’t let them out, nor allow them to interact with anything other than what is inside the house. As the game progresses, the player tries to push the boundaries of the game and clicks in the wrong places and “secret places,” refusing to follow the instructions of the game, making the game react in an unpredictable way.

Violating the usual routine of the game triggers its actual capabilities and horror aesthetics. The characters stop following their schedule, objects are placed where they should not be, and the narrator makes their attempts to bring the players back to sleep. Rooms become unreal, hidden ways are revealed behind the walls, and lullabies transform into some disturbing background music. In general, the game features lots of unexpected discoveries, as it is inspired by other games like Don’t Open Your Eyes and House I and II.

Direction 2 – The forbidden library (Point and Click)

Each visitor to the Library is essentially looking for a single truth. Some want to recall a loved one, others have committed a crime, while some may be in search of their own identity. The Librarian states only one main run: every truth comes with a cost that must be paid. One must give up their own sense of self to learn the truth of this place and to get out of it. Each book has the history of someone’s life in it, which can provide you clues on how they arrived to the library and perhpas find a way to escape. Eventually, as the shelves get emptied, your own past becomes a mixture of somebody else’s memories; thus, you will not even know which memories belong to you.

For this game, I think the gameplay will focus on complex decision-making (point and click, conversations with a deep narrative and multiple endings). The people you encounter claim to know you; however, each has their own version of who you are. Some people are afraid of you, while others mourn you. Inspired in games like: Who’s Lila? and Façade, in this game, every dialogue is interactive. Each action, regardless of your answer, modifies the degree of your relationship, uncovers new information, and influences how other people see you.

Direction 3 – The Infinite Train (Dystopian Horror Adventure) (2D/ 3D)

In a time when AI has taken control of humanity, the remaining humans face captivity on a never-ending train. Upon waking up, every passenger carries a strange number on their hands, but they have no recollection of how they came on board or what their number means. The train has AI robot stewards who make sure the rules are observed and obeyed, and they reward passengers’ docility but punish them for curiosity. The rumor has it that escaping from the train is impossible, but it has not stopped people from gossiping about yet-to-be-discovered exits and people who have disappeared.

As the player moves forward in the train, the line that separates the real-world experience and the surreal begins to bend and blur. They see that the train is not just a prison, but rather a tool for something oddly cruel. The main question then isn’t whether or not there is a way to escape the train but whether there is any world left to escape to, and if humanity has given it up unconsciously long ago.
