MDA & 8 Kinds of Fun – Lebriz

I believe that one of my all time favourite games is one that I played growing up which is called Okey. Okey consists of different tiles that you have to match up with other ones based on their number and colour, in order to match them up the tiles have to have consecutively increasing numbers or have the same colours.

Some set of mechanics, which was mentioned above, is the many rules that it has such as only being allows to match up the same colour tiles or consecutively increasing numbers. Then in order to win you have to place down one tile from your rack that is left over from the groups that you have made before anyone else does. There is also a joker tile which is picked at the beginning that is one number above the number on the tile in the middle of the same colour. The tile can take the place of any tile that you may need to complete a group of 3. These rules create a dynamic for the user to experience competition against their friends as they aim to win due to players racing to complete their sets before anyone and so must pay attention to what tiles others are collecting. As a result this game is both luck and strategy.

Overall, this dynamic makes the players feel tension between one another as well as accomplishment when they win. This game has the aesthetic of competition that allows friends to go against each other and have fun.
