My favorite game of all time is EA Sport’s FIFA 14, mainly because I grew up supporting Real Madrid’s soccer team and I have fond memories of the team at that time. It felt like they were invincible with the incredible speed and quality of Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo. FIFA was also a common bonding ritual whenever friends were over and we had nothing to do. However, my favorite aspect of FIFA was actually solo play — the “manager mode” allowed me to sell, purchase, and manage players as I saw fit over the course of an entire season, and gave me a much stronger tactical understanding of soccer. Assembling the greatest possible team was a goal I loved chasing down and I was willing to do anything to achieve it.
A recent game I enjoyed was Clash of Clans. It’s surprising at the pace of changes they’ve made to the game in the past year or two. I’m not as actively engaged in it as I was around 10 or so years ago — I probably check my base once every month or two. This blog post is making me realize I don’t play enough games worth remembering…
