Sketchnote: Loops & Arcs

A game I’ve sunk way too many hours into is Minecraft. The architecture is built on stacked loops: basically you’re farming, mining, learning new recipes, and upgrading your toolkit, with each loop feeding the next so progression always feels like it’s compounding. Combat sits inside its own loop too: take down mobs, collect their drops, turn those drops into better gear and brews, then go after harder mobs.

On the arc side, the developers point you toward one big goal which is defeating the Ender Dragon as the “final boss.” But a huge part of the appeal is the emergent arcs players write for themselves. What keeps people in it are the the pull of exploration, the itch to build something, and plain old survival instinct.
