One game I love is GTA V. Some of the mechanics available to the player are switching characters, weapons, vehicles, the in-game smartphones, spawn points, money, and the map. These mechanics make the game fun because the player has access to a wide array of activities. For example, the smartphone can be used to start missions, money can be spent on ammunition, and switching characters allows the player to see Los Santos from a different point of view.
The variety of mechanics forces the user to think out of the box to progress in story mode. It also allows users to diverge from story mode and roam freely. The map allows players to easily find side quests to complete. Players can also rob stores to get more money. GTA V, not including GTA Online, exhibits elements of fantasy, narrative, discovery, and challenge. The frustration of dying during a mission and seeing the iconic “wasted” screen adds to the fun of the game and motivates players to keep trying.
