CS377G: Game, Design, and Play (Rachel Liu)

  1. CHESS. ACTION = moving a piece during your turn. GOAL = checkmate. RULES = how each piece can move, plus a few other elements like castling or pawn promotion. OBJECTS = pieces i.e. pawn, bishop, knight, king, queen, rook, etc. PLAYSPACE = the checkered gameboard. PLAYERS = You + Your friend (or enemy)!
  2. Imagine applying the principals of Risk to Chess! You must roll to determine if your piece can capture your opponents piece, or to determine how many spaces you can move! Introducing this randomization to Chess, which has very very little random elements, makes Chess more spontaneous and perhaps less serious, changing the strategy entirely.
