(Sorry for making the links so big. They’re yellow, so I feel like they don’t stand out as obvious links if I don’t make them huge)

The big changes we made were adding a logo to the landing page, making it so rooms with mini-games let users choose between a mini-game or a riddle, improving the riddles, and taking out the wordle theme from the Open Up Shop mini-game because people really didn’t like it. We also made it so the riddles randomize the next time you visit the room.

We want to add some more mini-games ad incorporate narrative to the app. We are thinking of having an initial popup that tells the players the story of the fish market and motivates them to open a shop. This could be great onboarding, because we could weave the instructions into the narrative. We will tell them they need to “apprentice” in different shops to gain the wisdom they need to open a store. One thing we might add is another popup with the shop owner’s story before and/or after the mini-game to further improve the narrative.

Design Iteration

Our second iteration of game design was a big step up in terms of adding narrative through fish-themed room squares. However, during play-testing we found users had a hard time discerning between the squares they could and couldn’t move to. We fixed this by modifying our color themes and making the blocked off squares white for visibility. We think this iteration is both more enjoyable and more accessible!

We also added additional squares on the board that let people teleport and do special actions. We think this adds more fun!

One idea we played with but decided not to include was having pixelated designs. We will include them below for your reference, but they aren’t making it into the final design.

A brand new addition is room tokens. Users get these tokens after unlocking a room to keep track of the challenges they’ve completed. They’re also really cute and satisfying to play with! They are made out of wood with the printed icons on top.
