Directions

  1. 2.5D: We could try a 2.5D game similar to Octopath Traveler. This direction would allow for additional mobility in all three axes. In this case, the player would be able to physically move through a more expansive world, allowing for more elements of exploration. The player would have to rely on more strategic movements and character placements when deciding between engaging in combat or running.
  2. Metroidvania: We could also try more of a 2D sidescroller metroidvania. This direction would allow for less mobility as we would be constrained to two axes. In this case, the game would lean more into the combat direction as evasion/agility is less flexible in this direction. The player would be able to either confront enemies head on in combat or evade them by essentially jumping over them and running past them.
  3. Visual Novel: We could also try a visual novel, which would take a drastically different approach from the other two directions. This direction would focus more on the narrative story elements, where the core gameplay would revolve around making decisions at key junctions in the story. In this case, choosing to run or fight would be more of a button option to select rather than requiring more dynamic inputs from the player. In other words, the game would rely more on point-and-click as opposed to complex button or key inputs.
