Sketchnote: Loops & Arcs

One of my favorite games is Hades. In Hades, the core loop is the cycle of combat and death: you fight your way out of the Underworld, die, return to the House of Hades, upgrade, and try again. It’s tight, fast-paced, and resets each run—but it’s never static, because each failure feeds into broader arcs. These arcs include deepening relationships with characters like Meg and Thanatos, unlocking weapon aspects, and uncovering the layered family drama between Zagreus, Hades, and Persephone. For architecture, the Underworld is composed of distinct regions—Tartarus, Asphodel, Elysium, and Styx—each offering new environmental hazards and enemy types. Meanwhile, the House of Hades serves as a static hub for narrative progression, upgrades, and relationship-building.
