Hello! My name is Lauren, my pronouns are she/her, and I’m a junior studying CS in the HCI track. My favorite game of all time is Minecraft. I’ve played it since I was a little kid and dove back into it again during quarantine as a way to stay connected with my friends. I love the game because it can be enjoyable for every kind of player (whether you like the competitive, creative, or social elements of it most) and it’s always a comforting way to pass time both when you’re relaxing alone or playing with friends. I also love the Sims 4 similarly because of the flexibility and control you have over the “storyline” of the game, but also because I really enjoy being able to build houses and characters from scratch.
A recent game I’ve started playing again and have been enjoying is chess. I was in chess club in elementary school and always knew the technical rules of the game, but I never learned how to be good at it. Now, I really appreciate just how many ways a chess game can unfold, and playing/practicing it feels like a fun, low-stakes way to practice strategy and forethought.
