P3: Catopia Concept Map

The purpose of the game concept map is to explain the game itself to a player audience. The core object, the Cat, is centered, because it is the means through which the player can control the outcomes of the games. The cat, its properties, and actions are shown, and so are the risks and regards associated with each action. The diagram also contains information about the key resources the player must know about in order to interact with the system and strategize. This concept map is more minimal than the system concept map, because things that are not relevant to the player’s understanding of their actions are abstracted away, such as the underlying mechanics in a “battle.” Additionally this concept map does not lay out the specifics of the interactions between resources and actions, the player must discover it for themselves through feedback on their actions. As it is, the game concept map is enough to help a person visualize the playing experience.

On the other hand, the system concept map more clearly illustrates the relationships between actions, resources, and their effects, which would be important for a developer or designer to understand. Interactions are clearly spelled out. This map makes underlying relationships which are not immediately obvious through the game interface itself, visible.
