Overall, while I feel that this play-test went somewhat smoothly its clear that I have a lot of work to do, especially regarding world-building.
- Positive feedback:
- Well written
- Fun to make choices that genuinely changed the story and how she interacted with the space
- Intriguing concept
- Seemed like she genuinely wanted to know what was coming next
- Interested in diving deeper and learning more about this world
- Room for improvement:
- Lost on who this person is and what they’re doing
- Confusion around “reality” and what is and isn’t “real” in this context
- Is this supposed to be a world like ours? Where are we?
- Endings don’t feel fulfilling because it’s not building to anything and is super short
My first priority is to build out the world better. Since the main character is supposed to be a somewhat blank slate–someone who doesn’t even really know who they are–I don’t think it’s super crucial that I flesh that out right now, but it could be interesting to add some more context and lore to round out the character.
After I build out how the world works, I will design the actual location, which will be crucial since my eventual goal is to create a parser fiction and I want to successfully embrace environmental storytelling. I think I’m well positioned to do so.
