A game I enjoy a lot is Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade for the GBA. Following tactical RPG conventions, each level is contextually one of the battles that happen in the narrative, and cutscenes between these levels give you the context for them, creating the common cutscene-gameplay-cutscene sandwich. Where FE7 differs is the presence of parallel arcs as well. During each map, characters may end up having conversations with each other if adjacent on the battlefield, which is the primary method of delivering characterization for the large cast.
