Sketchnote: Loops & Arcs

One game that I enjoy is Overcooked. The core game loop is that people order, and you have to make it by quickly combining the correct ingredients. There are some mechanics you learn in earlier levels (eg cooking rice by getting rice –> put it in the pot on the stove –> wait long enough for it to cook but remove before it catches on fire). This is a lower-order interaction loop necessary for higher order compound skills like making a sushi roll (chopped fish + cooked rice + seaweed). The levels get harder as you progress due to increased time pressure and compound skill complexity, but the core goal of making orders always persists, keeping the game cohesive and naturally progressing.
