P2: Map, premise, project plan

In this game, the player wants to keep talking to a stranger on the phone, to prevent them from harming themselves. But, the player needs to ask questions in just the right way to avoid the stranger hanging up too soon.

(A map of the game flow)

Milestone 1

  • Finish a full script of choices that lead to endings. Add more ways to end the game.

Milestone 2

  • Add game into Twine.

Milestone 3

  • Test having a timer in the game.

Milestone 4

  • Test having sound effects in the game

Milestone 5

  • Test adding more flavor text for character backgrounds, etc.

Milestone 6

  • Submit the version w/ the most impact (not necessarily most fun, but most holding power over players)

Possible challenges

  • How do you write for two characters that only exclusively exchange dialogue?
  • How can i add more options where the player ‘fails’ the game?
    • Add in game states as ways of keeping track of ‘familiarity’ between player and character
  • Already struggling with adding in the timer code — are states just as complicated?
  • Playtesting this game might be tricky due to the explicit self-harm. I have at least one reliable game tester, but my other avenue will be Monday/Tuesday with the teaching team and Wednesdays in class. Timing my progress for playtesting in class will be tricky.
