The feelings I’d like to evoke during gameplay for our idea are:
- Curiosity (but a little confused/feeling small at scale)
- Motivation (feeling a drive to accomplish more in the game)
In terms of 3 directions for the game:
- 1: Internal battles
- Designate one of the players as the manager/antagonist of the game such that the remaining players must collaborate to thwart their nemesis before escaping. This could include open battling, time-based challenges where the manager can capture one of the crew if they win the challenge, etc.
- 2: All or nothing
- Given that this is meant to be a collab group game, we could extend the game by making it such that the game crew can get split up/lost at various points but must ultimately escape as an entire group, or not escape at all. This creates space for rescue missions and smaller pairs to work together on different challenges for variety and repeatability, even in an escape room based setting.
- 3: Conspiracy theory/Disney lore hunt
- Make all challenges related to Disney lore and trivia, allowing for the excitement of a particular set of the population (Disney adults), also play on the conspiracy theories around Walt Disney being frozen after death. This would add to the horror elements of our game’s theme and move the game towards historical nonfiction. We could also expand this with Mickey as a main player to the Fantasia shows that Disney puts on, with the Sorcerer’s Apprentice being the base narrative with fantasy and wizardry as game elements.
