I love to play The Sims 4.

Here are the mechanics: You have these characters called Sims—they are simulated humans with simulated needs and behaviors. For example, they need to be satisfied in hunger, hygiene, thirst, etc. The game is a simulation of life with these characters through the passage of a lifetime. Sims can interact with one another and the world around them, as well as NPC Sims. They can develop relationships, both platonic and romantic, and go on to have families. The characters have autonomy functions to perform behaviors autonomously, but as the user, you can manually control any of the Sims you are playing with. There are also other NPC Sims in the world as well. Each Sim has personality traits, can have occupations, hobbies, and skillsets which you can build as a player, and they have different moods.

The dynamics of this game entail:
Balancing needs (hunger, fun, hygiene) leads to time/resource management tension.
Sim interactions evolving over time (friendships, romance, conflicts).
Emergent storylines from choices and autonomy (e.g., a Sim rising from poverty or cheating in a relationship).
Emotional shifts that affect behavior and options (like a Sad Sim avoiding social interaction).
Consequences of player actions (getting fired, growing a family, achieving fame).
Social and household dynamics influenced by traits, careers, and relationships.

The kind of fun it makes for me is in the Sensation and Fantasy realm.
Sensation: I gain a sense of pleasure largely from the designing aspect of the Sims characters and the designing of plots of land. Making beautiful characters and homes is visually very stimulating to me, and it’s what I spend 90% of my time doing in the game. It brings out a side that allows me to be an interior designer and cater to my visual aesthetics. It gives me the ability to be creative as well, because it’s just a game where I can have unlimited money to design plots of land.
Fantasy: Oftentimes you can make up a scenario for your Sims to play. Like maybe you are living through a different person’s life, or you can surround yourself with fictional characters. The expansion packs also do a good job at this fantasy component, where you can have a diversity of pets, live in a tiny house, live in specific worlds—whether that be a city or the suburbs—or even become mythical creatures like witches, werewolves, or vampires. Additionally, you can live through created relationships or even family lives as well. For me, I love to play through the challenge of rags to riches, or play through generations of Sims.
