3 Directions from Ideation:
- Playing with colors:
The gameplay may focus on color as the core mechanic. Players can change their color or environment state to interact with platforms, objects, and pathways. For instance, a certain wall might only be traversable with a specific color state, and changing color will make new paintings come to life in the painting world. The genres of fun in this approach are challenge, discovery, and sensation. Players would experiment with various states and learn how different states affect their environment. Narrative style will be metaphorical, using colors as metaphors of emotion and states of the mind.

- Perspective Rotation:
This is a direction tailored specifically to the PlayDate crank, in which you physically rotate your whole world around, or parts of your world, to create new opportunities and reveal a path. An image that looks flat can transform into 3D. The genres of fun explored through this direction are challenge, discovery, and sensation, as players enjoy the tactile interaction and the realisation moment when a new perspective reveals the solution, helping them understand how this is a solvable riddle. The storytelling style works to represent that kind of paradigm-shifting understanding with the shifting perspective itself.

- Sound puzzle:
A puzzle game where players explore Van Gogh’s mind through sound rather than traditional visuals. Players use echoes, rhythms, and audio patterns to reveal hidden paths, locate objects, and solve environmental puzzles. Certain areas may only become accessible through specific sounds, while silence can reveal hidden information or change the environment. The genres of fun explored through this direction are sensation, challenge, and discovery. The narrative is conveyed through atmosphere and audio design. Changes in sound represent different emotional and mental states, allowing players to experience moments of chaos, creativity, and reflection within Van Gogh’s mind.
