MDA & 8 Kinds of Fun – Black Myth: Wukong

One of my favorite games is called “Black Myth: Wukong”. It is a 2024 action role-playing game developed and published by Game Science. At its core, the game adopts Souls-like game mechanics, as it combines intense combat with character progression, allowing players to collect items, upgrade abilities, and grow stronger throughout their journey. The focused combat system lets players combine attacks and dodges. There’s a lot of joy in finding the right rhythm. Each opponent has unique attack patterns and timings, so you must experiment with different combinations to counter them effectively. As you explore the open world, you can collect abilities from defeated bosses and use them against future enemies, resulting in a highly diverse range of playstyles and combat options. Importantly, you’re not forced into constant combat. You can often choose to skip or avoid certain enemies while exploring. The game is rich in background lore and narrative, encouraging players to dive into the stories of various creatures and their histories rather than focusing solely on fighting. Overall, this game is a beautiful blend of fantasy, discovery, and sensation. It transforms the classic Chinese tale of Journey to the West into a vivid, immersive, and narratively compelling experience. Players are not only captivated by the stunning visuals but also deeply drawn into the story itself.
