Narrative Directions

Game Platform

Fully Digital – Point and Click

This would look similar to Pokémon Crystal, with pixel art and a top-down view of the world. A flattened 3D world (as opposed to a first-person 3D game) would make designing simpler because we could control where and how players can explore more. However, players could still feel like a detective as they explore each space of the map.

Mix of Analog and Digital – Modular Levels

This would involve switching between analog tabletop mystery levels and digital levels. In this modular version, we could design separately, which could make development easier, but I worry about ruining the player experience and immersion by lacking cohesion and taking a lot of effort to switch between modes. Narratively, perhaps the final level is digital because you enter the dream world that all the villagers are trapped in.

Fully Analog – Tabletop Mystery

This would take inspiration from Unsolved Case Files, where 1-5 players can solve puzzles based on paper clues, using whatever space they have. This is the simplest in terms of implementation, but it would miss the exploration of a physical space, so this is my least favorite option.

The Map

A more artistic version of the map, where we see the main elements and the jungle
A more functional version of the map, including a scaled up village with individual houses. N is short for neighbor

Potential Storyline and Room Unlock Timeline

Example Rooms

The main character’s room, which the player wakes up in
The objects involved in one of the big reveals of the story: what is causing the curse and how can it be lifted?
