Introduction: Akary (ah-car-E)

Akary (ah-car-E), she/her. Excited to get to know y’all.

Oh! This pic was taken over break at this super cool dorm style hostel in San Diego (Samesun Ocean Beach – San Diego). 9/10. Really fun with friends, PHENOMENAL location, and would even recommend for solo travellers too. Introverts, use caution, very social. (I swear this isn’t an undisclosed ad I just had fun and wanted to share a cute spot with y’all).

Now the fun stuff.

Favorite game of all time: Detroit: Become Human.

I spent like half of last quarter trying to figure out why I liked this game so much despite all my criticisms of it; I finally have a real answer. Interactive non-linear narrative games remind me of when my parents would read me stories as a kid. Eventually I got bored of just going through the collection, so we started taking our classics and remixing them—kind of “branching” out like in choice-based games. Detroit scratches that same itch. It just appeals to me in a way that makes me feel kind of childish again. Plus, visually it was stunning at launch and still holds up today. (Still…I HATE David Cage.)

Recent game I enjoyed: Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream (demo)

I played the hell out of the 3DS predecessor as a kid, so this evolution is very welcome. They’ve definitely adapted for the times. All types of people—regardless of gender identity or sexuality—can now play and accurately represent themselves in their own little Miitopia. They’ve moved away from the celebrity culture that influenced the launch of the first game, and you can tell they’re angling this release more toward original story creation and fandom culture. More customization, a larger character threshold to create bigger stories, and (currently) no censorship. Very cool, very excited to have like 70 miis roaming around my island and creating storylines for them. I’m waiting to get my hands on a physical copy, I do not believe in subscription models and rarely buy digital copies.
