Brooke Ballhaus Introduction

Hi everyone! My name is Brooke, and I’m excited to be taking this class. I think play is such an important part of life and something that I consciously try to integrate into my day-to-day.

Pronouns: She/her

My favorite game of all time is showjumping. I’ve been riding horses my entire life, and showjumping is my favorite discipline. In this game, each player attempts to jump a series of obstacle (in a sequence we call a “course”) in the fastest time without knocking any of the obstacles over. This game requires athleticism, strategy, preparation, and guts. I love it because it requires you to be entirely engrossed in the moment and for you to use your entire conscious and subconscious mind.

Recently, I played the game Secret Hitler with some of my friends. I really liked this game because of the social deception and strategies you get to deploy, especially considering how simple it is to play. I learned new things about my friends (like how bad some of them are at lying) and about social interaction through playing.

Enjoy this photo of me and Peter (who’s too slow to be good at showjumping).
