Checkpoint 1: Concept

Emotions

Wistful, hopeful, enchanted.

Types of Fun

Discovery, challenge, fellowship.

Narrative Approach

Mainly an emergent narrative, with either embedded or enacted narrative elements depending on direction.

Directions

A group of friends separated in a forest, multi-player: players try to find their way back to each other from different starting points, will have to cooperate on certain tasks and give other players clues.

A person trying to escape a forest, single-player: learning about the protagonist’s life before entering the forest through thematic elements (narrative could center around regrets, coming to terms with an event, working through denial, etc.).

Progress measures: as the player progresses towards their objective (finding a way out of the forest, finding their friends, etc.), the scenery becomes brighter/more saturated and the music becomes more hopeful.
