Final Class Reflection

Before this class, I never really thought how much went into creating a game. When it came to video games, yeah I knew it takes years for programmers to code up a game, but I never realized how much thought went into the ideation, and deign, and the creative elements. Thats how I really learned to appreciate the critical plays. When I first found out that we had weekly critical plays, sketch notes, mind maps, etc., I had initially thought it was busy work and therefore was treating the assignments as such (hence why I was scoring in the 80s). I also struggled a lot because I wasn’t used to that kind of thinking and that kind of critical analysis when it came to the critical plays. However, after listening to feedback from the CAs to understand what they were looking for, and once it clicked, I also realized how fun it was to look at games like a game designer, I learned to really appreciate them. Also through these assignments as an extra bonus, I got exposure to so many games that I plan on continuing to play and introduce to my friends and family (coup is now one of my favorite games of all time).

I really enjoyed learning about different player types and different types of game play and learning about my self and what types of play I enjoy, was really cool. I think that something my groups really prioritized was before anything, knowing what type of game we wanted to make and what type of audience we wanted to attract early on was very smart so we could make choices that best cater towards that audience, and we ended up having such a great time in the process.

Overall my experience in 247G has been amazing and I am so excited to recommend this class to my friends!
