Possible Directions:

  1. In the post-apocalyptic world of San Francisco, the old neighborhoods and streets the protagonist once knew are gone. Much of the city has been submerged by the surrounding water, and he must escape. There’s one major problem though—his grandparents living in SF are missing. Our game, “Echoes of Silence,” will take the player through the dark and dangerous flooded and unflooded remains of the city. He will have to solve puzzles to pass certain obstacles, and make decisions that will ultimately affect the outcome of the game. I want this game to be centered around challenge: as the protagonist navigates his now sunken city, he must solve puzzles and deal with moral choices of prioritizing his own journey or others. Sensation and discovery are also key. The environment will force the protagonist—and thus the player—to operate with limited vision and force them to use audio clues to uncover mysteries around him. The uncharted territories will introduce a massive and almost-mythically new take on the Bay Area, one that entices the player to explore every pathway.
  2. This 3D fighting style game will take the player through a combative experience in the heart of a partially-flooded San Francisco. The protagonist is a young girl who lives with her single dad, someone who is wanted by multiple gangs. They come from an impoverished part of San Francisco, so as they navigate through the streets, they must deal with both violence and environmental challenges. The game focuses on narrative and fantasy as the protagonist learns about the history behind her family and city and navigates an entirely transformed urban landscape.
  3. In a mythical version of San Francisco, a player is trapped in a university akin to Hogwarts. A curse has been laid on the city that causes much of it to be flooded on one fateful day, and the player must save her grandmother who was with her for a parent-teacher conference. They navigate through the school in a walking-simulator-esque style, exploring the campus and collecting items along the way that allow them to escape. The game will incorporate elements of fantasy, challenge, and expression. There’s fantasy in the make-believe world of magic, challenge in the obstacles the player must overcome, and expression in the protagonist’s development as a powerful new figure and transformation into a full-blown magician.
