The idea that experiential learning is the product of aligning mechanics with values has really been obvious in the design of our P4 game. In order to teach, we’ve moved toward a more abstract game that, while modeling the complexity of the system better, avoids the dull procedural processes inherent to the topic. Figuring out this alignment has taken several weeks, but then it just clicked! No doubt that that was the result of observing playtests, considering feedback, going to dead ends, etc. All of which is so important to the process of design.
