This playlist features two prevailing moods for concept exploration of the two realms in our game. The first half of the playlist represents the city (or now Abyss) region of the world. For this environment I wanted to play with maximalism and include lots of mechanical and almost overwhelming sounds. The second half of the playlist explores the more reflective and calming forest. For this sound I wanted to include the wispy voices of Novo Amor and Bon Iver who also play with some dissonance to convey a similar disorientation and liminality as found in the Abyss and typical in spirit realms.

Game Directions:

  1. Narratively focused — Point and click adventure game where a little ghost must navigate through a mystical forest and collected the right items to advance to new regions and eventually assemble and reveal who their true identity is in the human realm. This will free the spirit from the Forest realm and allow them to return back to the human realm
  2. Narratively focused — Walking simulator that has players experience a liminal forest inhabited by lost souls. Character chose from a set of limited dialogue to interact with other souls and discover what happened to them and others. Based on the results of their decisions players either return to nothingness, return to the human realm, or are left wandering amidst the other lost souls for eternity.
  3. Discovery focused — Players are placed into an expansive world with no information, only the presence of other lost ghosts like them. They can’t speak to each other, but the player is welcome to traverse the expansive forest collecting items and spirit shards which must be cleansed in the abyss — an area which requires them to complete trials in order to cleanse the shards. Eventually the y can use the shards to find themselves and uncover who they truly are.
