Team 19 (“The Forest Spirits”) Norms

Team Members: Anthony, Annabelle, Jonathan, Frankie, Izzy

  • Avoid passivity– and encourage opinions + voicing them!
  • Designate a PM-esque point person (PEPP) for the project over the course of the rest of the quarter.
    • Keeping track of deadlines
    • Point person for knowing what needs to get done that week
      • What we want + how we’re gonna get it done
      • Forward-looking
    • Checking in once in a while if things seem stalled
  • Everyone should feel free to check in on the progress of others/work being done!
  • Whole team should contribute to the workload and work to proactively even the workload out
  • Set meeting times per week
    • Reserve meeting times (3x/week) but be flexible on whether meeting needs to happen on a meeting-by-meeting basis
    • When meetings don’t happen, we should post stand-ups (what we worked on, what we’re working on) in the Discord
    • If people get sick:
      • 1 person sick → zoom the person in, do in-person with the rest
      • More than 1 person → remote meeting
  • Minimal agreement to move forward on decisions
    • Checking in on the decisions we make;
    • Check in proactively and be communicative when decision points are being reached (as you work on things).
  • Don’t worry about being over-communicative– in fact, PLEASE over-communicate!! “If you’re not over-communicating you’re not communicating enough”
  • Gentle and honest for negative feedback + disagreement
    • → work towards compromise & synthesis
    • Be willing to go out on a limb, try things out (Intellectual Vitality™) → be willing to be convinced! / Have an open mind!
  • Assume good intentions / respect each other enough to be direct and give critique!
  • When ideating, don’t get bogged down by application!
  • Later on, it’s also good to not get bogged down by concept stuff (be willing to be realistic with scope– we have 5 weeks hahaha)
  • “Trust and verify” – but also don’t interpret the ‘verify’ part as mistrust (we’re just all interested in making this as good as it can be! :D)
    • Verify in the spirit of “how can I help, if needed?”
  • Use the hell out of reactions 😀
  • Be honest with your bandwidth
    • “Hi, I’m drowning”
    • “Hi, I can help!”
    • Be honest when you need to give up a task you took earlier!
      • This includes PEPP responsibilities!
  • Affirm each other! Encourage and notice when things go well 🙂
  • Rest + health is important!
