Short Exercise: What do Prototypes Prototype?

  1. Is this game going to be replayable?

Our game is a physical collection of minigames, where players play over 20 different small activities. Are these games going to get boring after playing them once? Is the variety going to be enough to keep players coming back? We need to answer these questions because the individual games are quite simplistic, so they might not be replayable.

  1. Is the learning curve of this game going to be reasonable?

Because the game has so many different minigames in it, it might be annoying for players to draw a card and consistently have to look at which materials it needs, how long the time limit is, what distance away they should stand (for certain activities) etc. Because we have so many different games, we also have a lot of mechanics, which might overload players.

  1. Are the materials in the game reasonable or do they need to be toned down.

The necessary materials for these games include blocks, balls, balloons, flutes, googly eyes, and many more. We have some concerns about whether or not we should try to consolidate the necessary materials, so that more of the games use the same ones. The prototype will help us figure out if there are too many materials to carry, or if the players get confused over which ones they should use.
