In number 7, 4 and 6, I played around with type. In number 5, I played around with proximity. In 5, I played around with proximity of the words that were yet to be “played.” By grouping them together almost like a word map, the game shifted to a sorting game rather than how it appeared currently. In terms of thinking of proximity, it made sense to group words together that had already been selected and words that had not been selected. That organization could help players see their past choices as well as their future options.

In 6, I focused on size making the name of the font or cheese super big.

The game I chose for analyzing visual design is Neko Atsume. Neko Atsume is a submission game or a sensory one meaning that the visuals are very appealing and comforting. Immediately on the Home Screen, the color contrast stands out. We see various shades of green from the mat to the grass to the plants. In addition we see various shades of orange/red and brown. By using colors across the same gradient, the home screen feels calm and peaceful. In addition, the colors of the toys contrast with the background, drawing attention to it and encouraging players to buy toys to attract cats.

The typography also contributes to the aesthetics of the game. The font appears friendly, fun and assuming as seen below.

In addition, proximity plays a part in making this design visually aesthetic. When I had this app in high school, I had played it for so long that I had many cats. While I recently downloaded it again and therefore cannot show screenshots to show multiple cats, when there are multiple cats, they are grouped in ways that makes it easy to use tools in the app. For example, the proximity makes it easy to take pictures of the cat. Additionally, the proximity contributes to the feeling of a cat haven — the goal of the app.
