Short Exercise: MDA & 8 Kinds of Fun

One game I’ve always enjoyed and come back to is Subway Surfers. I think I enjoyed it because of its simplicity; the game in itself is just swiping to dodge trains and collect coins, but the way it builds speed over time makes it feel intense and exciting. I love how it creates this flow where I stop thinking and just react, locking in to the game. I think in terms of technicality, I like the mix of challenge as well as the sensation it brings. The bright visuals, smooth animations, and the iconic upbeat music make it fun and light, even when the stakes get high. In addition, the mechanics, such as the jetpack or coin magnet add just enough variety to keep things interesting without overwhelming me. I also think there’s something so satisfying about the game, I find myself wanting to play the game when I need a break or want to zone out, and even though I’ve played hundreds of times, chasing a new high score or completing a daily challenge still feels rewarding. The quick game and wins make it perfect for someone with a short attention span who doesn’t want to spend too much time playing something. I think the storytelling aspect is also underrated. The feeling of rebelling and doing graffiti is just so fun! Me in another life….
