General:
Our team plans to develop a Greek-mythology-inspired Labyrinth-escape game. The plot involves our main character waking up in a ‘personal-hell,’ where escape seems impossible. To make matters worse, they have no recollection of their past and have no sense of self-identity.
Key emotions: yearning, thrill, fascinated, fervent
Descent into Madness:
A concept similar that of Attack of Titan is a direction that instantly sprung to mind. A thriller, action-packed, PvE feel where survival and escape are the only thoughts keeping you alive. Rather than titans, our character would face against mythological beasts and the fury of the deities. Through combat and world-exploration, the character begins to slowly recollect his memories and realize his purpose in the Labyrinth. Despite having to watch your back every step of the way, you come across a handful of friendly companions that assist you in your journey in escaping the Labyrinth. World-completion – vanquishing foes, navigating the labyrinth’s entirety, and interacting with NPCs – serves as the motivating/fun factor for a player if we chose to take this direction. As the protagonist ventures deeper into the labyrinth, the environments become increasingly surreal and unstable, reflecting the protagonist’s unraveling psyche. Each section of the labyrinth could represent a different aspect of the protagonist’s forgotten past and inner demons.
Quest for Redemption:
Our character wakes up to the smell of rotting flesh and extreme heat (inspired by the darkest depths of Tartarus). He realizes that he’s in Hell – he’s in the Labyrinth and that’s all he knows. He’s told by passerbys that the only reason he’d ever be in the Labyrinth was if he had angered the Gods. The walls are adorned with cryptic etchings and frescoes depicting the wrath of the gods, hinting at the transgressions that lead souls here. Scattered throughout the labyrinth are memory fragments that our character must collect to unlock the truth about his past. These memories will not only provide backstory but also unlock new abilities or alter existing ones, representing his growing understanding and mastery over his sins. The goal is not just to escape, but to atone for these sins, which are revealed gradually. The thrill of the game lies in unraveling the intricate tapestry of character growth and history, where each discovery not only shapes the gameplay but also deepens the player’s emotional investment in his quest for redemption.
Labyrinth of Lost Stories:
This concept revolves around nurturing relationships and uncovering the protagonist’s past through heartfelt interactions with NPCs. These characters, familiar with the protagonist’s history and significance, offer clues and narratives that piece together the lost identity and purpose of the player within the Labyrinth. The Labyrinth in this version is less a prison of torment and more a realm of reflection and discovery, filled with serene gardens, ancient libraries, and forgotten cities. Each area is designed to evoke memories and emotions, facilitating a gentle journey into the protagonist’s past. This direction provides a rich, emotionally engaging experience where the fun and fulfillment come from connecting with others, understanding oneself, and healing through shared stories and mutual support.
