Game Direction

  1. Puzzle Game

A linear narrative where players proceed by completing puzzles which leverage the unique animal capabilities, like Baba is You but with woodland creatures. Progressing through puzzles leads to new narrative interactions and setting changes, marked by the passage of the seasons

Narrative Types: Embedded, Emergent

Types of fun: Narrative, Challenge

  1. Platformer

Rather than puzzles, focusing more on mechanical execution of platforming segments with the unique animal elements, like Mario Odyssey. Strong level design and responsiveness of player control would be key, as platformers undergo a lot of polish, and have a high bar to meet. I think this would be an ideal use of the character’s animal forms, but could potentially lend itself to a host of technical challenges. Most likely incorporating platforming “elements” without quite being a platformer would be ideal.

  1. Adventure RPG

Like Undertale, a setting that focuses more on the characters and their antics than mechanical gameplay. Player would be sent out on tasks by the characters they encounter which have them leverage their animal features, which grow in capability as they grow accustomed to the new form.

Narrative Type: Enacting, Embedded

Types of Fun: Narrative, Discovery
