Direction 1: A samurai looking for revenge finds himself led to an ancient crypt where he believes his enemy lies. He ends up trapped alongside his enemy, and the two end up having to work out their differences and join together to find their way out of the crypt as it quickly becomes apparent that the crypt is more than it seems, with strange monsters and reality altering properties quickly becoming apparent. An evocative and enacting story mixing together samurai fiction with ruins exploration. Fun would come from the challenge of the platforming and puzzles as well as discovery as more of the ruins and the game are discovered. There would also be more of a focus on a narrative here between the two former enemies with fun from that.
Direction 2: A samurai looking for treasure delves into an ancient crypt, and ends up meeting the sealed spirit of the owner of the crypt. Under the spirit’s guidance, the samurai learns about the strange rules and mechanisms of the crypt, making his way past the trials and tribulations present within to reach the ultimate treasure at the end. But the “ultimate treasure” and the spirit and the crypt themselves end up not being what the samurai envisioned. A slower paced game with a focus on puzzle solving and platforming over combat to supply the fun of challenge alongside discovery of exploring the open, interconnected 2D spaces. With a greater focus on the world, there may be more fun from the fantasy of it all as well. The narrative would be more embedded, sifting out the true story through what the spirit deems to tell you alongside elements found in the environment during exploration.
Direction 3: A samurai in a dangerous crypt must hack and slash their way through monsters to find the secrets and treasures of the crypt. The fun would come from the challenge of handling all the monsters and platforming elements with an evocative narrative that culminates in a genre blend of science fiction and fantasy as the samurai ends up contending with alien forces and technology within the lower levels of the ancient crypt. This would be more action packed compared to the other options with a more straightforward narrative.
