Narrative Directions
Direction 1 – Platformer
Our initial idea for the game was to create a platformer. The player advances through the game by completing various platforming challenges, aided by the abilities of the local animals. Swim when trying to assimilate to the fish community, climb trees while with the cats, and so on. The story is paced by the speed of the player’s platforming abilities, with new information being given upon meeting characters after stretches of platforming puzzles.
Direction 2 – Point and Click
This direction would lean on the point-and-click mechanics and classic games within the genre. Players would interact with objects, characters, and the environment in each setting to solve puzzles and uncover mysteries. Environments could be more static, appearing as still images with interactable features. Players could then navigate between each setting freely.
Direction 3 – Walking Simulator/Open exploration
Player gameplay would be much more freeform than in the other narrative directions, focusing entirely on their choices in where to explore and in what order. Heavy inspiration can be taken from games like Journey, or Night in the Woods, where most of the gameplay is walking around and interacting with different characters. This direction could be more focused on compelling dialogue between characters and memorable moments than mechanics.
