Checkpoint 1: Individual Ideation (Team 22 – Jailia Y)

Moodboard

Spotify Playlist

The playlist starts with teenage angst and the complexities of jealousy before moments of self-introspection and navigating the highs and lows of teenage emotions. As the music evolves, it leads to moments of reflection and acceptance, ultimately culminating in a sense of contentment with the outcome of the prom queen experience.

Game Directions

  1. One possible game direction can be varying social statuses of the players. An example of this would be getting docked to the lowest social status, so players must rebuild their status and regain 100% of the points in order to become prom queen. Likewise, players can randomly begin at different social statuses that affect their starting position on the leaderboard. This mirrors real life, where not all people have an “equal chance” at becoming prom queen.
  2. Another game direction is incorporating two leaderboards that contribute to a player’s overall chance of winning prom queen. One leaderboard would be popularity/social status, and the second would be to indicate how others perceive the player. This means that in order to win prom queen, a player must have high social status and be an overall good person. For example, a player who is popular because they are mean would not be able to win prom queen. This direction would make the game less superficial and more representative of real life as well.
  3. The third possible game direction is only allowing players to gain extra points to advance toward winning prom queen if they correctly solve the puzzles/clues along the way. For instance, if there are extra side characters that can help or hurt the player’s progression, the player can only “collect” a side character after successfully completing a task or objective. This contrasts the idea of letting players draw side character cards every X turns. (Moreover, an extension of this that can be explored is whether all players will receive points, but the amount of points depends on their ability to complete the task fastest. Conversely, perhaps only the first player to complete the task will get points.)
