What do prototypes prototype

Our game is essentially a derivative of pictionary with elements of fake artist and having too many cooks in the kitchen, where the drawer must guess the word but is only instructed to draw one stroke at a time by their teammates.

  1. Do players value competition or creative expression more?
    1. This is an important question to answer since it will determine whether we continue with a two team format or have there be no teams.
    2. We will have a low-fi prototype of the game with two pads of paper, one for each team, and gather feedback. I predict that players will enjoy the competitive aspect and elect to keep it.
  2. Is it too  time-consuming and uninteresting to draw one stroke at a time?
    1. We need to find this out so we can restructure our game procedure as needed.
    2. We will instruct players to randomly choose between instructing a line or shape to the drawer, and gather feedback on the pacing. I predict that we may need to adjust this model of pacing so that drawings happen more quickly.
  3. What is considered a difficult object/concept to draw?
    1. This will be important to know as we may include more points for guessing higher difficulty drawings. However, standards for difficulty are different between individuals.
    2. We will come to a team consensus on difficult drawings and provide one – two examples of hard, medium, and easy in the prototype, and gather feedback. I predict that for most artists, the time limit will bring people together on what is considered difficult.
