Haunted Playground

The neighborhood playground has been abandoned for years. Every time a child goes to swing on the swings, they are never seen again. Your job is to uncover the mystery of the haunted playground — who is taking the children away, where did they go, and what are their motives? By solving puzzles to uncover the playground’s past, you learn about why and where each missing child was taken. At the end, you finally uncover the mystery — a child was left on the playground by his parents several decades ago, and died due to neglect. To get revenge on parents everywhere, they took any child they could that dared to walk into the playground. The child was left when he was just 5 years old, so his writing skills were not fully developed. This adds an extra layer of difficulty to the clues, as they are sometimes difficult to comprehend. Types of fun: narrative, challenge, fantasy. Narrative approach: enacting stories, evocative stories.

Cursed Arcade

This arcade is not like any others. While it contains what appears to be your favorite classic arcade games — Pac-Man, Frogger, Asteroids — some of the games have a secret, alternative way to win. Playing the way you’ve always played the game might not lead you to the expected result. Your job is to discover which games have been cursed by the Great Unknown. For each of these games, solve puzzles to determine the secret code that unlocks that game’s internal engineering system and allows you to do a hard reset on its operating system. Along the way, you’ll notice a pattern between the games that are targeted. By uncovering more about the Great Unknown’s past, you’ll begin to recognize its ways, getting better at identifying each cursed game as you move from one to the next. The catch is, you must work faster than the Great Unknown, as games will become cursed as time goes on. A game you deemed not cursed may be cursed in the next round. This is why recognizing patterns is crucial to winning. Types of fun: narrative, challenge, discovery. Narrative approach: embedded narratives.

Abandoned Amusement Park

This amusement park used to be the talk of the town over 20 years ago, but was abandoned in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. All of the rides are still there, but they haven’t been touched in years. The owner disappeared, and no one can even find the name of the company that operated the park. There are secrets hidden in each part of the amusement park. Everyone on the team starts off at a different ride — your job is to uncover the mystery that lies within your assigned ride. Each ride holds information on the owner that will help your team piece together why they suddenly went missing. Work together with your team to strategically put together all of the information obtained at each of the rides. Some of the rides must be solved in pairs, increasing the presence of fellowship. There are fun pieces of history to learn about the park along the way. You may even meet some workers lingering around picking up their stuff that they couldn’t get during the pandemic. Some of these tracks will lead to bits of information that can help you unfold the overarching story, but some just lead you down lighthearted, interesting paths where you can learn more about the most popular amusement park in the town. You may even want to build your own one day, after getting to the bottom of the mystery. Types of fun: narrative, challenge, fellowship. Narrative approach: emergent narratives, enacting stories.
