Yume Nikki appears to me to be a game that relies entirely on its “vibe.” There are very few mechanics, mostly just movement and ways to interact with the environment. There also seems to me to be no goal/objective, but maybe I just didn’t play enough to discover it. it follows the main character while they have a nightmare, and there are very spooky elements scattered throughout the game to contribute to that dream vibe. Additionally, the lack of mechanics and objective allowed me to be more creative/imaginative while walking around, and let my mind wander and wonder what exactly was happening, whereas in a normal game everything might be prescribed to me.
