A game I enjoy is Good Pizza, Great Pizza, and it employs a skill chain where you first master making simpler pizzas like flatbread and cheese before unlocking harder recipes like Hawaiian and fish pizza. Feedback is given by the customers and the amount of money they tip, which allows the player to update their mental model and make better decisions about how to make the pizza and manage time the next customer/day. There is also a story arc, which is that you are trying to compete with the pizza restaurant across the street, and this is conveyed through the owner of that restaurant visiting you and making comments as well as a news anchor that reports after every “day.” Each day is also an arc, with small stories that happen in each business day. The arcs are thus stringed together to produce the overall arc and paired with the interaction loop of making pizza to create the game architecture.
