narrative directions

  1. Enacting Narratives
Since we plan on playing as a protagonist with their own wants and fears, we want players to connect with their issues and concerns and in that way have a deeper connection to the difficulty of making certain decisions in the game.
  2. Strong, Meaningful Decision-Making
Decisions made in the game will have lasting impact on the story and what the protagonist (and player) experiences, encouraging players to think critically before acting in a particular way. Giving decisions weight will emphasize the themes we want to concretize in our game.
  3. Metroidvania-style Progression
Incremental, personalizable character progression that is thematically appropriate will further immerse the player in the world we create. Our protagonist begins the game with few abilities, but as they advance and learn new things about the world and their place in it they gain access to other areas they couldn’t access earlier in the game. This also emphasizes the sense of exploration we want to instill on the player.
